Here are some FAQs but feel free to reach out to us anytime here.
How do I switch my dog’s food to Applaws?

We’re so glad you asked. It’s important to introduce any new food to your dog gradually, over a period of 10 days. Sudden changes in their diet can result in an upset stomach or digestive issues, so it’s best to start small and build up slowly. Applaws dry is a high protein, grain-free food which your dog will love but they will need to adjust to – depending on their previous diet. It is not uncommon for your dog’s toilet habits to change. You may see looser stools during this transitional period, but over time they should firm up again – a good sign of a healthy digestive system.

What should I feed my puppy?

You lucky thing – we love taking care of puppies. At 12 weeks your puppy can eat solid food and should be fed to appetite as much as they want. Puppies have sensitive stomachs so it’s important to make any changes to their diet slowly. We suggest you switch them onto any new food gradually over 10-14 days, slowly increasing the volume bit by bit.
We believe the best way to feed your puppy is with a natural diet that their bodies were designed for. Like the wild pack dogs, your little furry friend is also a carnivore. They need meat from protein (not cereals and grains) and essential vitamins from vegetables and fruits This will support essential brain, bone and teeth development as part of overall health.

That’s why Applaws recipes have been carefully crafted with natural ingredients. We only use the finest cuts of meat or fish in our wet food range and vitamins and minerals which exist naturally. The essential amino acids which puppies need from their food every day, such as taurine, are naturally occurring in the prime meat and fish we use in the Applaws wet dog food range. Our dry food contains extremely high levels of meat at 50% of the recipe and is cereal and grain free. We recommend serving your puppy complete dry food with a complementary wet food. They may like to have up to eight smaller meals a day – some of these could be in the middle of the night. We recommend a bowl of Applaws complete dry food be left out 24 hours a day. You can then top it up with Applaws wet dog food – don’t forget to always leave a bowl of fresh water out. If your puppy has special dietary requirements, or you are unsure about any aspect of feeding your puppy, speak to your Vet to put your mind at rest.

Natural ingredients help to keep pets happy and healthy – naturally. At Applaws, this is our core belief and at the heart of everything we do. We simply believe everyone, humans and dogs, thrive better by eating natural food with no additives, colours or flavours.

Why grain free dog food?

When our founders started Applaws, they discovered that most commercial dog foods contain high levels of cereals and grains which are cheap and filling but not necessarily beneficial to the health of our dogs. Some can even cause allergies, itching and digestive issues. While dogs are able to tolerate some level of grain, they are carnivores and their bodies are at their healthiest when they get their protein from meat and not cereals. The main source of protein in Applaws dog food is quality meat, like chicken breast or tuna. We make sure our recipes replicate your dog’s natural diet, as closely as possible, so you can serve happiness in every bowl.

What is the difference between complete food and complementary food?

Complete pets food such as Applaws dry, contains all the vitamins and minerals your furry friends needs to be healthy. If you only feed your pet complete food and provide lots of fresh water for them to drink, they will receive the all nutrition their body needs. Complementary pet foods are not designed to be the only source of food for your pet. They are a great way to add variety, flavour and essential vitamins to their diet but should be served with some complete dry food. At Applaws, our natural, wet complementary recipes contain real meat and fish. These prime cuts provide your pet with naturally high levels of vitamins, taurine and arginine and they are a great way to make dry meals more interesting.
Portion sizes will depend on your pet:
If you have cat, we suggest you leave a bowl of Applaws dry out all day for them to graze on and then serve a wet complementary meal in the morning and evening.
If you have a dog, feed them Applaws dry during the day and serve a complementary wet meal by itself or as a topper on their dry food.
